Week 1 is officially in the books and holy shit was it ugly……lots of turnovers, missed shots and just straight up ugly play. Each team had a few bright spots but, in general, it was pretty fucking bad. Bar attendance was pretty poor as well….with the bar being so close to the gym lets try to make an effort to get more guys there each week. Even if you just stop up for a beer its worth it….moral of the story, dont be a Whirity.

Bar Attendance
O’Malley—1
Manzke—3
J Healy—ZERO
McEldowney–2
Harrigan—5 (early bar power rankings boost)
DeCarlo—2 (no DeCarlo….he must be in trouble at home)
B Healy—ZERO
Spadoni—1

Week 1 Re-Cap

O’Malley 57 Harrigan 43
This game was closer than the score looks. Very tight game until about 4 minutes left when team O’Malley started moving the ball super well (stalling). Moving the ball super well (stalling) is not necessarily a tactic that the league agrees with but the best way to not allow a team to stall is to not be down big with 4 minutes left. Colin Sullivan lit up Team Harrigan…hit a bunch of big 3’s and played solid D. Overall team O’Malley played like they have played together before which is why they will win the championship…..minimal mistakes and moved the ball very well. wanted to give a huge shout out to Sean Hunt …..it has been a while since he played and his stat line was impressive. 16 min, 7 shots from 3 point land and he hit the rim once….i can honestly say i have never seen someone airball 6 3’s in a game. Team Harrigan is going to be a force moving forward and have moved up in the power rankings…they have athletes, are big and can score. Mark Koll was nonexistent and ill bet that is the last time it happens all year.

DeCarlo 54 Manzke 50 in OT
this game was UGLY. Team DeCarlo was the better of 2 questionable teams. Cosme and Slager did their best to try to win the game from the 3 point line but it didnt work out…Slager was 5-32 from 3…..quick tip for team Manzke….maybe let your best player (Cosme) touch the ball next time you get a game to OT. If anything, team Manzke has grit. Mark was slashing all game but was having trouble scoring in traffic. He also airballed a free throw in OT that would have kept them in the game. Team DeCarlo fought there way to this win. Tyler had 64 rebounds, Dan Henry hit a few big shots and Gierhahn played solid. MVP though goes to Tim Lyman….came off the bench and had 10 big points…great hair Timmy…..sorry, i mean, great game Timmy. Both of these teams will be PLUMMETING in the rankings.

Brian Healy 47 John Healy 45

younger brother oaf beats older brother oaf.  Perfect headline for a RIDICULOUSLY HORRIBLE game.  Solid performance from this game at the bar……team green apparently has 24 people on their team and NOT 1 PERSON FROM EITHER TEAM WAS AT THE BAR.  We need better from the Healys.   I honestly dont know what to write about this game…Donny looked like the 7th pick in the draft….doubles may be losing a step, will be interesting to see how his ego is impacted by being picked 5 spots after his original draft projection.   Team John Healy will be fine…Kevin Harrigan will score enough to keep them in the game every week and Pat McCarthy, who apparently has been living in Alaska for the last 9 months, looks like he will fit in the 2nd round with a few more games under his belt….also, someone tell Burhans that he is better off inside the 3 point line…..you played d1 football Chris, start using your body.  Ryan Hannigan looked pretty good for not playing hoops since 2016…..shot seemed a bit off but i can see him being one of the best valued draft picks this year.  Lloyd Christmas also played well.  MVP goes to Tom O’Malley….had 4 or 5 big 3’s to keep B Healy ahead.

Spadoni 40 McEldowney 35

fitting that the ugliest game was the last…..pretty clear that these 2 teams are going to stink.  Danny Mac moved to the burbs this winter and left his basketball abilities at his old condo…..BUT, if there is one thing i know about Danny Mac, its that he will be back.  Cant keep the best shooter in the league down for long.  Team Mac was handed a big blow when Rob was a late bail.  hard to expect to win when your best player is out.   good debut for Pat Ramsden….from the sounds of it his only goal this year is to win Rookie of the year over his brother.  McGuffage kept team Mac in this game…they just didnt have enough to stay with the worst team in the league.  I owe an apology to Team Spain, i predicted that you wouldn’t win a game and i was wrong.  balanced performance for team Spaindoni.   Jimmy Adducci had a nice debut with a few 3’s…..watch out for this guy….if i had to rank shooters in this league he would be top 5.  Pat Statham played pretty well….he is still probably walking back to the north side so if you see him on Cicero, give him a waive.   Team Spaindoni needs to shore up its rotation….as in most leagues, at the end of the game the 5 best players need to be on the court…..jury is out right now if Spadoni is one of them or not.
