If someone left an Evolution Basketball with “SCHH 3” at the gym last week Dan Gainer has it and will bring it to the gym. I will tell him to leave it at the scorer’s table.
bye- Team Statham could drop to 4th in the standings during its bye week-brutal-Team Statham needs a player’s only meeting so that everyone understands their roles going forward
6:00- Manzke v. J. Healy -5 – Big game for team Healy coming off the bye with a chance to get back into the thick of things. Meanwhile, Team Manzke is in desperation mode as they try and stay out of the play-in game. As usual, Team Manzke will rely primarily on the Big 3 of Manzke, sexton and McGelligot but even those 3 struggles to score last week. Team Healy does not have a Big 3 but will rely on Carroll and Slager to carry the scoring load for them. John Healy has a chance to be part of the Big 3 even he puts his big boy pants on and does not get pushed around by the smaller but stronger McNulty. McGelligot should have no problem shutting down Hunt assuming that is the match-up and Team Manzke does not go with McGelligot against Carroll. Last time to two teams played, Team Healy won 54-49. If Team Manzke can once again keep the score in the mid-fifties and get enough rebounds to push the ball, they have a shot at the upset. Regardless of the outcome, Team Healy will still fail to represent at the bar and their bar ranking will plummet faster than the recent stock market. Stahl has all but locked up his spot on the all-bar team-very impressive for a first year player.
7:00- McEldowney -4 v. Harrigan (upset special)- Team McEldowney won its last two games by the slimmest of margins-two weeks ago they won at the buzzer in double OT and last week they won on a gift from the refs when they were sent to the line with 4 seconds left in a tied game. This week their “luck” changes especially with missing a 4th scoring option because Guinane will not be at the game. Once again, Team Harrigan will rely heavily on the Harrigans as they combined for 50 + points last week in a tough OT win. If Fahey can shut down either one of the Harrigans, then the upset has no chance but if anyone can do it Fahey can do it. If that happens then Goyke or Chris Hayes will need to step up and fill the scoring void. Team Harrigan has more than enough size to match up with Gainer but they have to get their Bigs into the rotation which has not always been the case this year. Hahn’s defense on McEldowney or Spain could be another key to fueling the upset. last time these two teams played. Team Harrigan or should I say Kevin Harrigan) destroyed Team McEldowney 84-55 but this is a different Green Machine this time around and regardless of the outcome the game will be close and KH will be luck to put up 20.
Late breaking news- no Brian Harrigan tonight dealing with an achilles and calf injury- hope it is not serious. Pretty much eliminates any chance at the upset unless KH goes for 50.
8:00- B. Healy -8 v. Wagner -Last time these two teams played, Team Wagner earned its first and only win of the season but that was before Team Healy replaced McAvoy with Lyons. If Lyons plays anywhere neart the way he played last week, Team Wags will not have a chance plus they most likely will be missing Greeno for the 5th straight game. Smallbone is still questionable for the game but much like last week they most likely will not need him especially if Kessenich returns. Team Healy still needs to show that their 5 man ass-kicking of Team Gold was no fluke. If Wags, Packy and Bendo show, there is a slight but very slight chance of an upset especially if Wags brings his Sunday morning shooting to the gym on Tuesday. Troy McAllister continue his run for 6th man of the year with his second 20+ performance in a row. Kessenich will be the “X’ factor for Team Healy.
Late Breaking News- no Scott Lyons which increases the chance of any upset assuming Packy shows but Smallbone is going to f give it a try so the upset will not be easy regardless. Healy and a healthy Smallbone might be too much for Team Wags to handle.
9:00- O’Malley -7 v. Spadoni- this is a huge game for Team O’Malley. With a win they can vault into a tie for 1st but will also hold the tie-breakers against Team Statham and Team Spud. Team Spud could be reeling after the thumping they took at the hands of Team Healy last week as much as they try and convince themselves that “a lost by 1 or a lost by 30” still counts for just 1 loss. I am not sure that is true. Last week’s lost was so bad in so many ways despite the fact that Koll was not at the game. As with most teams facing O’Malley they will have a hard time matching up against McCann certainly Koll can’t do it nor can Shimko. Will they dare play zone? It will be interesting to see if DeCarlo earns a start after his impressive performance last week. Seriously, I can not believe I actually typed that. Of course, he will be riding the bench when the opening jump ball goes up. The only chance Team Spud has is to contain the big 3 of DeCarlo, McCann and Glanville. After last week, Ryan can no longer consider himself one of the Big 3. Team Spud will need 20 + points from both Koll and Shimko and 20 points combined from Alkhovsky and McGuffrage if they expect to have any chance at winning this game. But more importantly, they have to show that they are willing to commit to play some semblance of defense. Tyler could be an “x” factor in this game. Will Spain make it two appearances in a row?
