Pretty poor showing at the bar except for Team O’Malley who was celebrating as if they had already won the league after learning that Team Statham was moving on.

O’Malley v. Shimko

Not much of a game after all. O’Malley led most of the game and had an 8 point lead at half but Team Shimko was within striking distance although the decision to have Hahn guard McCann turned out to be a bad one while Team O’Malley’s decision to have Granville guard Shimko was the right one. The first half got kind of chippy at the end of the first half with Granville and Shimko getting on each other’s nerves. Team O’Malley quickly opened up a bigger lead in the second half and the game was over with 10 minutes left to play. Shimko had no answer for the trio od McCann, Granville and O”Malley and even inexplicably switched to a zone defense in the second half and Team O’Malley responded by taking the air of the ball which forced Team Shimko to go back to man to man but the game was essentially over by that point. Shimko and Bendo pretty much carried the offense load for Team Shimko all year that were unable to do so in this game with both Shimko and Bendo having off nights at least by their standards.

Healy v. Statham

The second game of the night was much more competitive with both team scratching and clawing back and forth with several lead changes throughout as Team Statham struggled with their shot-making in the first half, Greeno single-handedly kept Team Statham in the game and might have had 17 of their 26 first half points. Team Statham held a 26-22 lead at half as both teams found points hard to come by. Team Healy started the 2nd half on a 10-0 run and it looked like it was going to be their night. Team Statham eventually re-gained the lead with clutch 3s by Statham and Cosme and had a 5 point lead with 2 minutes to go and sealed the game with 6 out 6 from the FT line. Amazingly, Team Healy only shot 2 FTs the entire game. Team Healy struggles to score all night with Badon facing constant double-teaming and no one else picking up the slack. Team Healy was left wondering what could have been had they not be gutted by injuries.

SIDE-NOTE: Team Healy suffered another brutal injury in this game with Mike Taff going down with a torn MCL, ACL and Meniscus after a scramble for a loose ball . Hopefully, Mike had a good recovery and will be back playing next year.

Highlight of the Evening; Brian Healy walked out of the gym and left his son in the gym and almost drove away without him. I would love to be a fly on the wall as he tried to explain that one to the wife.

Championship May 14th 8:00.

Statham v. O’Malley- early line Team Statham -5 (no Granville for Team O’Malley) – a more detailed preview and breakdown of the game to follow.

Championship Night is traditionally one of the best nights of the season. The game should be a good one with the two best teams going at it but the fun part is always the post-game celebration. We would like to see as many players from the league to show up as these might be the closet you get to a Championship especially if Keith or Jason drafts you. The league pays the kitty so no excuses.
