Bye- Team J. Healy
As the race tightens:
6:00- O’Malley 80 over Statham 69- Team Statham has yet to start a game with a lead but in this one they hit 4 out 5 of their first 3s and they still trailed. Always hard to play against McCain because he is the captain of the All-Roz team. Nothing like increasing the difficulty of playing against the best player in the league by Roz giving him generous calls on both ends of the floor. Apparently it you breathe on Buckets a/k/a Hoops he gets the call- B-Mac had 3 fouls called on him-in the first 8 minutes after puling him with what we were told was his 3rd foul in turns out there was no foul called but B-Mac had already sat out the rest of the first half. Brutal. Jay executed a perfect box-out against Buckets and Jay was called for the foul. Afterwards, the ref said “that was the worse call I made in my career” no shit! But that was not the story of the game. The story of the game was DeCarlo who was only playing because Petrak was not there and play he did. DeCarlo must have had a 6 pack of White Claws before the game. How else can you explain 4-6 from 3- yes that is not a misprint. 3 more attempts than Ryan. Guess where DeCarlo will be next week-that’s right back on the bench. The story in this game was the 16 bench points scored by Team O’Malley and team Statham giving up 49 points in the first half. Apparently, Buckets has been working on his 3 point shot as he was 3-4 himself. Team O’Malley just seems to have team Statham’s number.
Addendum: This game featured a rare 5 point play. Pat Statham was fouled on a 3 pointer and went to the line for 3 shots. He made the first 2. Missed the 3rd one on purpose grabbed the rebound, shot again, made it and then made another FT. Not sure I have ever seen that.
Addendum: Roz’s explanation for missing an obvious take down which resulted in a no-call :” sorry I was looking down at the time”-what?????
700- Healy 81 over Spadoni 52- and it wasn’t that close- Lyons had a career night probably scoring 40 points as he was not going to let his team lose. Sully also made an appearance in the scoring sheet after his public shaming last week. This win was even more impressive because they did it without Kessenich and Smallbone. Despite missing the game, Matt still showed up at the bar- good for you, Koll was missing for team Gold but actually there entire team was missing in action in one of the worse beat downs of the season. To make matters worse, Team Gold’s 9th round pick showed for the second time this year but at half-time and did not say a single word to any of his teammates the entire game.
8:00- Harrigan 83 0ver Wagner 71 (OT) Team Wagner found another way to lose. Up by 3 with 5 seconds left and Kevin Harrigan throws up a desperation 3 that bounces out to brian H at the 3 point line and he drains a 3 to send the game into OT and Team Grey won by 6 in OT. Despite being guarding by one of the better defenders in the league(Packy), Harrigan up about 40 points and could not be stopped. I still maintain if BH and KH get hot team Grey can beat any team in the league-defense be damned. Brian was hobbling though the entire 2nd half and has been dealing with a tender Achilles. He needs to avoid an injury if Grey is going to have any chance this year.
9:00- McEldowney 51 over Manzke 49 -phantom foul called with 4 seconds left and the game tied to send Spain to the line for the winning FTs-I guess Roz needed to get up to Dingers. Pete Spain could be the surprise MVP of the league. Some observers would say that this was a great defensive game-that may be but Team Manzke had trouble scoring all night. McGelligot almost sparked a come from behind win with consecutive 3 point shots but Team Manzke’s comeback win was sabotaged by the phantom foul call. To Team Manzke’s credit, they did not bitch about the call one bit and they would not blsme the loss on that call or no-call.
